5 Ways To Handle Stress In The New Year

As 2019 is coming to an end I’m reflecting on the year and how to improve as I go into the new. If you’re like me the whole “New year, new me” never applies. I prefer to make a list of goals I wish to accomplish. Writing it down is a way to set something into motion for me. One thing I know I need to do better for 2020 and in general is managing stress better. So I wanted to share my list and I hope that helps everyone stay stress-free (well as stress-free as possible.)

1. Make time for yourself

As simple as that sounds it’s not as easy. My week and/or my day can get so busy that I forget to make time for the most important person, ME! Set aside a specific amount of time for yourself and do something for you. It can be an 30 minutes to an hour each day or once a week. Whatever you need. No one knows you like you.

2. Stop worrying about others opinions

It’s okay to take another’s opinion into consideration but don’t let it control your life. At the end of the day it is your life. You have to live with your decision and what makes you happy. Your opinion is the only one that matters. We cannot make everyone happy, just one (ourselves 🙂.)

3. Go for it!

That new job you’ve been wanting to apply for? Wanting to apply back for your degree? Want to start learning a new skill or start your own business? Go. For. It. Stop talking yourself out it or worse allowing someone tell you that you can’t. “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.” – Benjamin Franklin

4. Stop comparing yourself

This is a big one for me! Between society standards telling your where you “should” be in life and social media setting the “it” image, it becomes hard to be confident in oneself. Realize that you are you and that is the best thing! Everyone has their own path, their own life and their own beautiful body. Being you is what makes you so special to the world, don’t compare yourself and try to be like others. We need more of you.

5. Go with the flow

Take a deep breath and relax. We can only control so many things in this world. What life throws at us is not one of them. So go with the flow. Control what you can, make the most and best of every situation.

Out with the old and in with the new! Here is to the great year coming for us all. 💕

  1. I’m 100% the same way – the whole “new year new me” never really applies to me as I always make those small changes every day to get to my goal rather than waiting for that ~special~ reset of a new year. In 2019, I don’t think I’ve ever stressed out so much in my life, still getting a handle on it going into 2020!

Making time for yourself is so so important, for me that through running + taking time away from applying to jobs, I always feel super refreshed mentally and physically after giving myself time to breathe outside on a run/during an ab workout!

YES – worrying about other opinions is literally one thing that will take away all of your joy in a second, it’s so important to care about your own opinion, you can’t make everyone happy but it’s important to keep yourself happy.

I’m really aiming to have a more ‘Go For It’ attitude this year, so much of 2019 was imposter syndrome sitting in the drivers seat, not anymore! It’s so important to not put off things for tomorrow, but to make the changes you want to become your reality that very same day!

Comparison is really the thief of joy, especially with social media but everyone has their own unique path in life, and it’s something to always keep in mind as you’re pushing through whatever it is you’re going through.

    Great post!

    1. Ugh yes! You get it, I literally stressed my way through 2019. I’m doing so much better already. Here is to a better year for the both of us 💕

  2. I handle stress really badly and it affected me a lot last year, so I’m really hoping that this year will be a lot better for me! Thank you so much for sharing your tips… I loved the line “we can only control so many things in this world” and it’s something that I need to remember when I feel like everything is falling apart!

    1. That’s what I tell myself! 2019 was not my year but stress is something I think we can all improve on when it comes to managing it to help ourselves. I hope this year goes well for you 💕
